BIBLIOGRAPHY FOR HEALTH AND FORCED DISPLACEMENT
(SOME ANNOTA TED AND SOME NOT)
MEDICO FRIEND CIRCLE ANNUAL MEET
16lh-17"' January 2009
(version D.01)
Introduction:
Forced (internal or across the border) displacement (or migration) due to conflicts (internal or
across the border) or natural disorder has no definition in the context of its health impact. There are guidelines from UNHR, UN OCHA for humanitarian response to the situation.
This includes what could be the state policies and practices to improve and protect the health
of refugees, displaced persons. There are guidelines prepared by humanitarian response
agencies about standards of refugee camps etc. However, there doesn’t seem to be guidelines
when the state itself directly (eg Sardar Sarovar issue) or indirectly (Sulwaa Zudum - directly
or indorectly?) gets involved in forced displacement internally.
Here efforts were made to compile available resources to understand a various perspectives
regarding the impact any displacement has on the health of an individual, family and the
community. There is a table with brief summary of some articles, books and papers on this
issue. There is also a list of books, papers, reports, guidelines, papers and websites on issues
related to displacement and health.
I have searched for the material on http://www.google.co.in and in some of the websites.
