MESSAGE FROM S,J. CHANDER
(This is for CHC/Oxfam/SCI office reference only
since it was not very clear. A more detailed

* The Bangalore team reached CHAI/Sanghi relief camp, Nandurga village,
70 Kms. interior from Latur.
★ They took autos (6—8 Rs.) to Shivaji Chowk from Sholapur railway station

on 22nd and then hired a matador from Chakeshwari Travel Agency
(Rs. 550-600 - return included).
* From Sholapur to Latur

* The base camp set up here has now around 60 volunteers including the
18 from Bangalore.
* The Bangalore team has been divided into three groups and two are mobile/

roring teamst running field clinics,
about 13 K.ms. further interior.

A new sub centre is being established

* The volunteers have good conditions of living and work and have adapted
well.
* A daily morning meeting around 9 a.m. helps to pull in ideas,
perceptions and plan day to day work.
* S.J.Chander is concentrating on water supply and sanitation related work.

* More details of the situation and the types of work members of the team
are doing is being sent by fax shortly.
* A replacement of team both medical and volunteers will be required in
the first week of November since the expected return of members of the
team is as follows;

i) Dr. Sanjeev Levin and Dr.Shivaraman will return on 31st October
as per instructions given to them by their department’s heads at
St.John's Medical College.

ii) Dr. Parthasarathy and Dr.Ashok Kumar Jain of St.Martha* s Hospitai
will return on first week also.
iii) Dr. Vidya Raman and the Carmel Nivas sisters - around 3/4th November.

iv) Chander and Michael will stay on atleast till 10th November.
The next team must reach by 1st / 2nd so there is some overlap, Chander
has requested there should be atleast one senior doctor to help organise/
coordinate things.

N.B:

Presently from last week’s discussions/contact
i) Dr. Arvind Kasturi is interested to lead next team from lst/2nd.
He has still to arrnage this with Dr. Dara Amar.
ii) Dr. Shirley D*Souza will return from village posting on the
weekend and may join the next team.
iii) From CHC, Soumya Kumar and Anthony have evinced interest,
of them may join in.

We could discuss this further after following up on more
volunteers for - SJMC, SMH and SPH.
