Sub : Reflection on the Relief and Rehabilitation Work
and preparation for a disaster management scheme.

This is in continuation of my letter to you dated 11 May 1994 regarding the
above subject. The response from those who have been invited has been
reasonably good. We expect a word of confirmation from others in the com
ing days. Arrangements are being made both for the reflection session on
24th and 25th June and also for the visit to Nandurga camp on 22nd and
23rd June so as to make the experiences as fruitful as it can be made.
As said in the earlier letter the objectives of the meeting are three fold :
1. Gather together the experiences of volunteers in the disaster management
at the Nandurga camp.
2. Exchange ideas on building up healthy communities in the affected
villages.
3. Setting up a disaster management cell.
To facilitate meaningful interaction it is suggested that each of the partici
pants come prepared to share their experiences and reflections. It could be
prepared in the following lines:

1. What was your motivation to join the camp and the early experiences
after joining the camp ?
2. Did arrangements in the camp and its general organisation help meeting
needs of affected people ? If Yes/No highlight.
3. What were the things that made the camp effective/not effective ? List out
areas and give reasons.

4. Management of the camp including its organisation at different levels,
Central Coordinating Committee in Hyderabad, Field and Administra
tive Coordinators at the camp, task groups, sub-camps etc. adequate
response to the situation.

5. How do you evaluate the liaison of the camp with people and agencies;
village elders, people in general, the sick, youth, children, government
department officials and other voluntary organisations etc.?
6. What comments do you have to make the management of disasters more
effective in future'
7. What do you recommend for our future involvement in Nandurga and the
surrounding villages to make them healthy communities with full
participation of people ?
8. Any other areas you may want to share on.
