GOVERNMENT OF KARNATAKA

KARNATAKA FOREST STATISTICS

1980

Issued by :
THE CHIEF CONSERVATOR OF FORESTS (GENERAL) BANGALORE

PREFACE

The publication “The Karnataka Forest Statistics-1980 ” is the
first of its kind brought out by the Forest Department. This
publication incorporates in a single volume, the latest statistical data
in respect of the Forests, on a variety of subjects.

The data included in this volume are obtained from the
Divisional Officers of the Forest Department and various publications
of State and Central Governments.
The area of forest divisions do not normally coincide with the
revenue divisions or districts ; the jurisdiction of a forest division.
in some cases extends beyond the district and includes parts of
adjacent district.
However efforts have been made to present
district-wise break-ups, as far as possible.

The Karnataka Forest Statistics-1980 was prepared in the
Statistical Cell of my office under the guidance of Sri A. S.
Sadasivaiah, IFS and Sri R. M. Palanna, IFS, Deputy Conservators
of Forests. I am also grateful to Sri H. B. Gurumurthy. Assistant
Director, heading the Statistical Cell.
It is intended to bring out hereafter “The Karnataka Forest
Statistics ” every year. Therefore we shall be grateful if our atten
tion is drawn to possible errors and omissions in this publication.

Suggestions for improvement and for making this abstract more
useful are welcome.
Bangalore

Dated: 30th September 1981
